T&T's Real Travels was born from our overwhelming passion to see the world.
We're an average American married couple with two demanding jobs, a
mortgage, family, friends, hobbies, and two cats who hate each other. We
live in California's Silicon Valley, and while we love our hometown, we're
drawn to distant locales during our annual two weeks of vacation. For
years, we've recorded our travels, and people asked us how we take all
these crazy trips. So finally, we decided to share our experiences with the
world.
We're more comfortable than backpackers, yet more practical than
jet-setters. We travel like you can. Join us on our adventures in real travel!
About Trystan L. Bass:
It all began with Howard's End. Thomas and I had been dating for a few months when we saw this gorgeous Merchant-Ivory film. I was mesmerized by the
images of the English countryside and wistfully said "I wish I could go
there." To which Thomas replied, "Let's go!" For the next six months, we saved our pennies (we were both students at the time), and then we visited the UK for three weeks.
Before that trip, I'd never been farther than Canada. Like many Americans, I thought travel was too difficult and expensive. But a little planning and a lot of enthusiasm finally carried me abroad. I was hooked after that trip! And during Thomas' and my long courtship and into our marriage, we set foot on every continent.
Travel is liberating and mind-blowing. Seeing the rest of the world makes you
a better citizen of your own country. And it's just plain fun to climb
mountains, visit temples, swim in blue seas, shop in exotic bazaars, and meet
people all over the world!
About Thomas Dowrie:
Travel has a long, rich history in my family. Since I was 5 years old, I've been traveling internationally, thanks in large part to my grandparents and father.
I was fortunate enough to see the U.S.S.R. when it was still just that, in the summer of 1987 when Glasnost was reaching it's prime. As a 15-year old, that trip changed my life forever, and I realized I could go just about anywhere in the world and live to tell the tale.
From my many visits to the United Kingdom to our tour of India, from seeing live lava flow before our very eyes in Hawaii to our trip to Egypt at the outset of the second Gulf War in 2003, all these journies enrich us somehow and change our lives.
Travel fills your life with a sense of adventure and accomplishment. If you embrace it wholly with an open mind, it provides a deeper understanding of the world around you.
